Understand how applications are assessed, what criteria are prioritized, and what obligations recipients must fulfill.

Assessment Framework

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are evaluated based on two primary dimensions, ensuring that both academic excellence and national relevance are weighted equally in the selection process.

Research Relevance

The proposed doctoral research must align with one or more of the nine priority research areas defined by the scholarship program. Preference is given to projects with clear strategic, developmental, or societal impact on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • Alignment with priority research domains
  • Potential impact on national development
  • Originality and feasibility of the research proposal
  • Clarity of methodology and objectives

Academic Merit

Candidates must demonstrate strong academic standing through their transcripts, recommendation letters, and scholarly achievements throughout their doctoral journey.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.20/4.0 or 8.0/10
  • Quality of the letter of recommendation
  • Strength of the motivation statement
  • Supervisor endorsement and support
How It Works

Selection Process

Application Submission

Candidates submit their complete application dossier with all 8 required documents through the online portal between 1–15 July.

Administrative Review

Applications are reviewed for completeness. Incomplete or late submissions are excluded from further consideration.

Academic Evaluation

Eligible applications are assessed against the two evaluation criteria: research relevance and academic merit.

Results Announcement

Selected candidates are notified and results are published on the official website on 30 July.

After Selection

Scholarship Obligations

Recipients of the Alija Izetbegović Doctoral Scholarship are expected to maintain academic progress and fulfill the following obligations throughout the scholarship period.

Biannual Progress Reports

Submit progress reports in September and February each year, documenting academic milestones and research advancement.

Required Report Documents

Each report cycle requires: a Doctoral Progress Report, an Updated Transcript, and a Supervisor's Statement confirming continued mentorship.

Termination Conditions

The scholarship may be terminated if the recipient fails to submit reports on time, enters permanent employment, or shows insufficient academic progress.
